Environmental Chemistry's Assignment

Hi guys !

Are you guys okay ? Because I'm truly not okay . After having a mid semester break , I was having a mental break . Too many assignment to handle . But , praised to Allah I can handle it with gentle .

So , here I'm gonna share to you guys about my assignment .

This assignment is SKU3033 , which is Environmental Chemistry . The assignment was about soil . We have to present about Soil Composition and Type of Soil . I can share a few information about the soil composition and type of soil .

Soil Composition
Soil composition is an important aspect of nutrient management . Soil contain soil mineral and organic matter that hold and store nutrients meanwhile soil water is readily to provide nutrient for plant uptake . Soil air is too plays an intergral role since many of the microorganisms that live in the soil need air to undergo the biological processes that release additional nutrient to the soil.

Basic component of soil are consist mineral , organic matter , water and also an air . It consist approximately 45% of mineral , 5% of organic matter , 20 % - 30 % of water and also 20 % - 30 % of air . Those percentage are only generalization at the best . This is because soil are very complex and dynamics . Soil can fluctuate on a daily basis , depend on numerous factors such as water supply , cultivation practice and or soil type .

The solid phase of soil , include minerals and organic matter , generally stable in nature . Yet , if organic matter is not properly managed it may be depleted from soil . Liquid and gas phases of soil , which water and air respectively are the most dynamic properties of soil .

Type Of Soil
There is a lot of type of soil . As example sandy soil , clay soil , silt soil , peat soil , chalk soil and loam soil .

1 . Sandy Soil

Sandy soil is light , warm dry and tend ti be acidic and low in nutrients . This soil often known as light soils , due to their high proportion of sand and little clay . Even thought , clay was more weights than sand .  Sandy soil were quick water drainage and easy to work with it . Also it quicker to warm up in spring than clay soil but it tend to dry out in summer and suffer from low nutrients that are washed away by rain. In additional , addition of organic matter can help to give the plant an additional boost of nutrients by improving the nutrients and water holding capacity of soil .

2 . Clay Soil

Clay soil is a heavy soil type that benefits from the nutrients . It remain wet and cold in winter and dry out in summer. It was made of over 25% of clay , this is because no spaces between the clay particles. It also hold a high amount of water . Clay soil drain slowly and take a longer time to warm up in summer . This is because of the combination with drying out and crackin' in summer and often test gardeners .

3 . Silt Soil

Silt soil is a light and moisture retentive soil type with a high fertility rating . This soil can compromise at medium sized particles they are well drained and hold a moisture well . Silt soil particle are fine as they can easily compacted and they are prone washing away with rain . By adding organic matter , the silt particles can be bound into more stable clumps .

4 . Peat Soil

Peat soil are high in organic matter and retains a large amount of moisture . This soil are rarely found in gardens and often imported into a garden to provide an optimum soil base for planting .

5 . Chalk Soil

Chalk soil are either light or heavy but always highly alkaline due to calcium carbonate or lime within the structure . They are alkaline and not support the growth of ericaceous plants that required acidic soil to grow . A chalk soil shows the signs of visible white lumps then they can't be acidified .  Gardeners should be resigned to only choose plants that prefer an alkaline soil .

6 . Loam Soil

Loam soil is a mixture of sandy, silt and clay soil that combined to avoid the negative effect of each type . Loam soil are fertile and easy to work with and provide a good drainage . Their predominant compositions they can be either sandy or clay loam . It were perfect balance of soil particles and considered to be gardeners best friends but still benefit from topping up with organic matter .

So that's all thank you !
